<p style="text-align: center;">The problem with cravings and stress eating is that we are starving.  Yes, starving for deep nourishment that food alone can never provide. But we keep eating.  Unsupportive relationships – we eat, bank account is unstable- we eat, not doing the work we love – we eat.  How can we break free and feel happy in our bodies?</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Here is a recent consultation with a student in my 21 Day Cleanse, a petite woman in her early forties who I will call Debbie.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Olga:      Recall a most recent craving, what substance did you crave?</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Debbie: It was fried chicken with French fries, and a chocolate milkshake.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">O:      What was the feeling that propelled the craving?</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">D:  I was home alone.  And I was feeling anxious and lonely.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;">O:  Breathe into the solar plexus and ask:      “What am I disconnected from and replacing with chocolate milkshake and      chicken?”</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">D:  It’s intimacy.  I have been avoiding intimacy (sobbing).</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">O:  So what is it that you <strong><em>really      want, </em></strong>that which will replace the food?</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">D:  I want connection, trust, and love.</p>

<h3><strong><span style="color: #ff6600;">Pumkin Pie with Cashew Cream</span></strong></h3>
<p>Inspired by Nomi Shannon</p>
<p><strong>Crust:</strong><br />
2 cups brazil nuts<br />
1 cup shredded coconut<br />
½ cup pitted dates<br />
dash of salt</p>
<p>Process shredded coconut in the food processor. Add the remaining ingredients and process again until the mixture is sticky. Press the dough into a round pie pan and put in the freezer while making the filling.</p>
<p><strong>Filling:</strong><br />
6 small yams, peeled and coarsely chopped<br />
1 cup raisins, covered in water for 20 min. (keep the water)<br />
½ cup pitted dated<br />
½ cup macadamia nuts<br />
1 orange, peeled and coarsely chopped<br />
1 tsp. Chinese 5 &#8211; spice powder<br />
¾ tsp. cinnamon<br />
pinch of clove powder<br />
pinch of salt<br />
2 Tbl. psyllium powder (mix in at the very end)</p>
<p>Blend in a power blender the top 5 ingredients, including the water from the raisins.<br />
If the mixture is hard to blend, add a little more water. Add the remaining ingredients, except psyllium husk, and blend. When the mixture is smooth, stir in the psyllium husk and pour into the crust immediately. Then put back into the freezer while making the cream.</p>
<p><strong>Cashew Cream:</strong></p>
<p>2 cups Cashews<br />
½ cup pitted dates<br />
½ Tbs. vanilla extract<br />
1 cup water</p>

<p>Makes 4 servings</p>
<p>4 cups fresh green beans<br />
2 cloves garlic, pressed<br />
3 Tbs. virgin olive oil<br />
2 Tbs. Tamari sauce<br />
2 tsp. dried chili pepper</p>
<p>Snap off the stem end of the string beans. Steam the green beans lightly, just until they turn bright green and tender. Immediately toss with the remaining ingredients. Vuala.</p>

It’s all about preparing ahead while keeping it easy, healthy and quick. As you pack your picnic basket think about balancing these three food classes:</p>

<p>Notice that animal flesh and dairy products are not recommended because of their dense, slow-metabolizing quality; they also decay quickly in the sun. Instead, highly nutritious organic plant-based food is encouraged.</p>
<p>Chlorophyll, also known as “liquid sunshine,” is the blood of plants; it keeps the entire planet alive and well, and it will revitalize you, too. The plants absorb and organize the sunlight; eating plant food transfers the vital sun energy directly to you, undiminished. Green leafy vegetables are overall the best source of iron and heal anemia; they alkalize your blood and boost immunity, while detoxifying the liver of heavy metals and pollution.</p>
<p>Get the summer glow — eat unheated plant fats for beauty. Raw plant fats optimize your brain function, lubricate your joints, make your skin and hair shine, and allow for a longer-lasting high energy level. Yes, you want them! The craze against fats applies mostly to cooked fats. When oil is heated it breaks down into a carcinogenic molecular structure that cannot be absorbed by the body, leading to weight gain. In contrast, eating avocados, olives, and fresh coconut flesh can help a person lose weight because these fats contain lipase enzymes, which allow body fat to be burned.</p>
<p>Sweet fruit is a summertime favorite; it is the optimal fuel for our sparkly brains and cognition. Choose fruits with seeds. Seedless fruits such as bananas, grapes, oranges and watermelon are bred for certain genetics and thus are hybrid foods that confuse the body’s metabolic process. It’s important to eat this quickly-digestible fruit alone or before the denser slowly-digestible foods such as nuts, breads, and animal products to avoid gas, bloating and constipation.</p>
